A few days ago I got a call from Heather, one of the many great friends I met when I lived in Orlando a couple of years ago. During our conversation, she told me the great news of her long time boyfriend proposing to her last Christmas. And as usual, I screamed like a girl and last I checked her ears are still ringing. I'm so sorry Heather, my excitement got me carried away.
She then asked me a favor that left me speechless. I happily agreed and said it will be an honor to be her stylist for her childhood dream wedding, exchange vows with the man she loves on a beach with the sunset and loved ones as their witnesses. Knowing my good friend as the last minute type of gal ( and she knew that I would've probably said no for such short notice for a once in a lifetime event ), the wedding date is set for August 31st! I told her she's lucky it's her wedding.
After hours of brainstorming, I told her my idea which she excitedly and happily said yes to. In honor of her Greek heritage, Heather will be saying 'I do' looking like a Greek goddess on a white sand beach and clear blue water in Miami. I've chosen this caftan by Kai Milla, a gauzy linen sheath that floats like sea spray, held at the shoulders by a winding rope studded with iridescent mother-of-pearl shells. Her hair will be simple and pulled back with a mother of pearl pin. Her make up will be light and ethereal. Wearing a pair of Bettye Muller gold sandals and a pair of Casadei thongs we haven't decided which pair is for the ceremony and which is for the reception dinner. Heirloom jewelry the spans three generations finishes this wedding to remember.

I'm a a bit partial on this week's fashion criminal simply because I'm a big fan of this designer's body of work. Alexander McQueen has revolutionized fashion since his first collection and there are no signs of him slowing down or stopping anytime soon. This Mongolian shearling jacket has impeccable tailoring and the attention to detail of which McQueen is known for. I love McQueen's excessiveness and always pushing the envelope of fashion. But this jacket the push becomes a shove. I actually asked myself how many furless black lambs are running around the mountains of Mongolia. The shearling adds to much weight and bulk to the jacket taking away from the gorgeous red embroidery. And for $11,720.00!!! Imagine how many lambs you can buy with that money.

Around this time last year I was not liking most of Marc Jacobs' shoes, apparel and accessories. And it was no surprise that a couple of his shoes ended up on my worst shoe trends of 2007. John Galliano called it 'fresh couture -- refreshed and refined'. I have to disagree, Dior Fall '08 Couture Collection is fresh couture -- glamourous perfection. The collection speaks beyond the realms of fashion that can be appreciated by anyone. Fifties inspired designs paraded the runway done in decadent see through gowns, tulle dresses, hourglass silhouettes, flawless hair and make up and fabulous shoes. Christian Dior delivered a collection above and beyond my expectations. Come to find out it was created by a french designer named Jean Paul Gaultier. I've been a fan ever since.
Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Fall 2008 is simply spectacular. Brightly colored gowns, lace, and fur with interesting shapes and patterns which reminded me of the movie, The Fifth Element for which Gaultier was the costume designer. And despite the runway review by Style.com, which called the collection 'recycled' and said "It was a pity he worked so hard to cover them up," I still absolutely love this collection.

For my birthday a couple of Sundays ago, I met up with my sister and her family at Universal Studios Hollywood for lunch. I complimented my sister for the fabulous maize colored sandals she was wearing. And to my surprise that she only paid twelve dollars for the sandals! She told ma that she purchased them online GoJane.com.
I decided to check out the site. My first stop is the women's shoe department. While browsing the extensive inventory, one shoe caught my attention. A pair of sandals looked like a pair of Chloe sandals from a couple of seasons ago, and thought it's just a coincidence. Well, the 'coincidence' reasoning ended when I saw a sandal identical to a pair of Guisepe Zanotti, Yves Saint Laurent Tribute platform pump and more!
Despite the obvious and almost identical designer shoes offered at GoJane.com, I still give the site kudos for having designer inspired shoes available for everyone and not replicating these shoes for the sake of making a buck! My preference on leather shoes has always been matted finish. I stay from shiny or glossy finish maybe it reminded me of a time in my life, ROTC! I thought of every possible reason to excuse myself from the torturous college prerequisite. It wasn't fabulous at all. But I heard that ROTC is no longer administered back in the Philippines. Lucky!

Choosing a Fashion Criminal every week is not easy. I do have a few things to consider like wearability, style and the price we have to pay to wear something not pleasing. This week's criminal failed on all the criteria.
This Akris Turtleneck Jersey Dress is an offender at first sight. The color is absolutely boring. And the design? Just imagine how many times you have to tell people, 'Oh this how it was designed'. Of which reminded me of an old folklore growing up in the Philippines. It's been said that if ever you were lost and would like to find your way, just wear every article of clothing you had on backwards and inside out and you'll be back on track. Maybe this model got lost? And to further prove that this dress is guilty and deservingly be a crime of fashion, you can own this dress for a bargain price of $3,300! These days, it's not surprising to find women's handbags that are almost identical in style, color and design. And the only difference are in the details and the brand. Unless, you end up buying impostor couture then it will be clone of the original.
Being a 'smart' shopper and a designer label lover, there are times I'm faced with the dilemma of choosing between two almost identical items. It gets worst when both are on sale! My indecisiveness is usually remedied with my intended budget. If I really like the designer brand and the price is justified with the item's quality and trendiness, then it's a winner.

I was never a fan of Donatella Versace and it's not that I don't like her designs or anything. Maybe it's just the fact that when I hear 'Versace' the only person that I associated and grew up to love is the late Gianni Versace. And since Donatella replaced her brother to head the Versace empire, I guess a part of me felt she didn't deserve it because it was Gianni's hard work, blood, sweat and tears that made Versace one of fashion's respected and renowned label.
But knowing the fact that Donatella was ( or maybe even today ) being compared to Gianni, just imagine what that feels like. Haunted by the legacy left by a loved one, with expectations to at least maintain that legacy or worst surpass that. And her resilience and hard work to move forward and has done her brother proud is endearing and respectable.
Versace Men's Spring 2009 is a collection that showcases innovation and modernizing the Versace man. Chrome, steel gray, yellow, lavender and cool hues of blue painted the runway with fresh and sensuous designs. Making a true believer out of me that the Versace legac is in perfect hands. Bravura Donatella!

There's a requirement for long dresses though, you have to be tall or tall enough that you can wear shoes that will give you the desired height to be able to wear and look fabulous in a long dress. This summer if you're planning to wear a long dress go with colorful patterns or muted colors and patterns. And as for shoes to go with the dress, stay away from flats unless they are thongs or sandals and for heeled shoes I recommend a minimum height of 3 inches, you don't want to look like your drowning in the dress.

Betsey Johnson is known for creating whimsical, colorful and fun clothing. But some women as much as they love her stunning creations, they tend to shy away from Betsey Johnson because of that. EventsWhen it comes to men's suiting, the only 'smart style' I can suggest is to invest some of your hard earned dollars in a reputable designer label. Of course, if you have a tailor that you consult and have your suit pieces made then you're all set.
Ready to wear blazers, jackets, tuxedos and pants are virtually available in every department stores out there. And at most the alterations will take at least 24 hours or some places offers same day service. This convenience which I'm sure have saved a few grooms due to last minute mishaps. Has a few drawbacks, from production issues to damages on the merchandise itself.
And for us gentlemen whom the luxury of having an 'atelier' at our disposal is not an option. The next best thing is ready to wear suits and separates from designers like Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein, John Varvatos and Hugo Boss. Prices can range from the low hundreds to a thousand dollars just for a blazer or jacket. But expect great workmanship and longevity.

I'm just filled with today's holiday spirit so I decided to have some fun with our traditional red, white and blue colors. A great advice I can give you when it comes to celebrating the holidays, it's acceptable to wear our holiday spirit may it be American flag earrings, stars and stripes socks but don't over do it! I've seen some folks wearing from the hats on their heads down to the painted stars on their toes. Maybe if bald eagles are not endangered I won't be surprised to see a nest on their heads with our country's national emblem proudly displayed.
There are subtle, tasteful and fashionable ways to show your reds, whites, and blues. And one way to figure out which shoes goes with what top, you can do a simple table of items you like by grouping them by color then you can create a look that's all you! Have fun.

Gift IdeasMen's Spring '09 Collections are filling the runways in Milan and Paris. Top Designers Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Christian Dior are on my best of Spring '09 list. And I'm grateful for these designers for they made it easier to bear some designer's creations.
Number (N)ine Men's Spring '09 Collection was too over the top. Possibly one of the worst collections I have seen for a while. I know that fashion is a form of self expression, a platform to voice our opinions or to make a statement. But when delivered in a way that is borderline crazy and outwardly ugly. As a fashion lover, that is just offensive. Someone may argue that it's haute couture, well Number (N)ine Spring 2009 Collection is still a haute mess! And guilty of all ninety nine counts of fashion negligence!

And honestly, that was the reason UGG boots were on my 'uggly' list for some time. It's undeniable that UGG boots are very comfortable and for this fall season has up the ante with edgy and chic designs.
Notable pieces in the collection are 'Endell', a short suede boot with buckles with rugged features but chic enough for a woman. A personal favorite of mine, the 'Gisella' wedge this is a hot and must have shoe for fall. Sophisticated elegance is best to describe 'Raya', a textured suede and leather boot with chicness to last all year long.
