Moving on to the Best 'Splurge' Women's Shoes in 2008, this category is perhaps the toughest category to narrow down. Choosing the top 3 amongst the creme de la creme of footwear designers wasn't easy. But in the end, I'm happy with the outcome.
First on the list is vanguard shoe designer from Miami and 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award nominee, Alejandro Ingelmo. His tastefully designed avant-garde metallic shoes captivated me! Can't wait for his next collection. Next is oh-so-chic Miu Miu. Miu Miu designs are innovative and fresh. Seems like Miu Miu shoes are always a couple of step ahead of the pack. And last but certainly not the least, Dior. John Galliano rallied fashion powerhouse Christian Dior season after season in 2008. J'adore Dior!

Best 'Smart' Women's Shoes in '08
My third and last pick for the Best 'Smart' Women's Shoes in '08 gain quite the attention when Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin wore a pair of Naughty Monkey 'Double Dare' pumps on one of her many speeches. The edgy and corky yet trendy designs are still to be adored by many. It's more of an acquired taste I guess. Nice job Naughty Monkey!

Oh Prada! That's what came out of my mouth when I saw this shoulder bag from Prada's Spring '09 Handbag Collection. It's simply luxury at it's finest. As if a handbag made out of python is not enough, why not add some sparkling, glimmering stones. This handbag is a definite splurge for the new year. Bad news to my fellow Californians, this bag can't be shipped to the Golden State due to the fact that it is unlawful to sell or ship any products containing python skin.

I have to be honest, hearing about Paris Hilton launching a footwear line didn't surprise me at all. I figured sooner or later that would happen eventually. That sentiment was shared upon reading pop singer Jessica Simpson's footwear collection.
Whenever celebrities use their names to brand shoes, apparel, coffee mugs or any merchandise, I see it just another way of raking in some royalties and most of the time the merchandise is really not all that. I have to admit Jessica and Paris' are doing a great job on their shoe collections. The shoes are chic and affordable. Keep those fabulous stomps coming!

As we herald in the new year in a couple of days, I reflected on the year it was 2008. We were a part and witnessed history unfolds here in the U.S. by electing Barack Obama to be our next president. We mourned the passing of Yves Saint Laurent whom I believe is one of the great and influential person in fashion's history. But forever we will celebrate and honor the fabulous legacy he created. These events were just a few of many that shaped the historical landscape of 2008.
2008 is also the year that I created and launched TheSmartStylist.com and I've been enjoying both the good and not so good times every blogger goes through. To you my dear readers, family and friends, I greatly appreciate your ongoing support. Thank you very much for all the kind words and gestures you've given me and 'The Smart Stylist' in 2008 and hope you would do the same in 2009!

Seeing this boots made me wonder, who signed off on the design and production of such hideousness. Surely, attention is what you'll get but for the wrong reasons. As punishment for this crime, a life sentence in the land of fugly shoes. Remember to bring your passport!

With the advancement of e-commerce, we have access to fabulous Boxing Day sale events. Ssense.com's Boxing Day Salebration offers an additional 40% OFF on select items and already reduced merchandise! I ended up buying a few shirts, that's how great this sale is. Winter officially started today. Here in L.A., we are fortunate enough not to worry about snow just the cold temperature. As snow falls, the prices of boots are falling as well! This is the best time to shop for a new pair or two. In fact, there are quite a few amazing shoe sale out there. Piperlime is having it's Lime Tag Sale where you can find savings up to 40%, Dillard's is offering 40% off on selected shoes. Macy's on the other hand has so many promotions going if I won't be surprised if the entire site is on sale.
It may not snow in your area, I still suggest to have your boots ready. The insulation and protection they provide against this season's bone-chilling temperatures is reason enough to get a pair. And considering the boot season will commence in just a matter of weeks, buying a pair priced over $150.00 is a bit impractical. Try to keep your budget under $100.00. There are great finds out there just look at what found! Happy shopping and stay warm!

Christopher Bailey's modern and edgy designs for Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall '09 Collection is definitely one of my faves. I'm loving the bootleg pants and trench coats! Gray, plum and black are the key colors in the collection. I like the range and variety of the collection. Unlike prior collections that were a bit monotonic. So, kudos to Christopher Bailey!

Men's eco-friendly clothing has still to be as available and extensive just like for women. Organic is one of my favorite source for eco-stylish men's apparel. Their designs are simple yet trendy.
Organic's modern update on the classic two-button henley made with 100% Peruvian organic wool is very eco-chic and on sale for $209.90 at Saks.
I've been searching for other eco-friendly and eco-stylish clothing but to no avail, I'm still searching. And noticed that Saks' Organic selection is down to five items and they are on sale at the moment. Hopefully, Organic won't be phase out.

Holiday sales and promotions are virtually everywhere. Retailers try to outdo each other by attracting consumers with bigger discounts, free gifts and so on. Advertising budgets are exhausted to the last penny as they hope their invested impressions will generate revenue. I can't stress it enough the importance of skin care and maintenance for men. And it's during the cold season that a skincare regimen is most needed. Protecting your face against the harsh elements will have long term benefits. Keep in mind, it's never to late to start a regimen of your own.Skincare products and grooming tools are the key in achieving and maintaining a healthy-looking skin. If you shave with disposable razor blades even if you use top-of-the-line skincare products defeats their purpose.
As much as possible invest on grooming tools that works with your regimen. Also, having your best face forward involves maintaining your eyebrows, nose hair and facial hair. If you have to tweez then go for it. You can also have your eyebrows wax once a month or on your next haircut. PJ's are perhaps the one thing I don't mind receiving on my birthday, Christmas or any other occasion that involves giving me a present. Because it doesn't matter if its winter, spring, summer or fall, daytime or in the evening, you can find me in a pair of comfy pajamas. Specially when I'm at home. During this cold season, flannel and jersey sleepwear are best and cotton or other light fabric for warm months.
As far as how much you should spend on a pair of sleep pants, a $50.00 budget buys a nice pair from Banana Republic, GAP and Nordstrom. Macy's has boxed gift sets that are reasonably price. And if you're looking for great bargains on men's sleepwear Old Navy is the place to shop.

These Luichiny 'Annabel' Boot and Bootie are perfect examples of economizing gone bad. Thinking that you're getting a deal, 'buy a shoe get free socks for life'. To add insult to injury, wearing a pair of this 'sweater' shoes is equivalent to 'fashion suicide'! People will eventually notice that you always wear the exact same socks with the exact same shoe. And the only thing that changes are your socks either worn cuffed on the ankle or pulled up to your calf. So, utilize your 'fashion sense' and don't let anything cloud your judgment during times like this.

I think there are some guys who secretly wants a trendy designer bag. May it be for traveling, the gym, work or for everyday use. I remember shopping with my brother at Nordstrom and told him that I'll buy him a new bag for school. And as we are browsing, I noticed that he wasn't really looking at the bags. I kept on showing him designer bag after designer bag and all he say is yeah that looks good or it's cool. I later asked him why he seemed uninterested, he said handbag shopping is a girl thing. Oh brother! Long story short, he eventually told me that he liked the Tumi Messenger Bag we saw at the store.
Goes to show that us, men wouldn't mind getting a trendy gym bag, messenger bag or designer luggage as a gift this holiday. I guess this gift is best suited for someone who travels frequently for work. It would be nice to have something to remember you by when he's away from home. Makes homesickness a little better to handle.

PUMA 60th Birthday Party @ Roxy L.A. on Dec.8. That's me giving PUMA some lovin'
In celebration of PUMA's 60th Birthday, a series of free concert are being held in major cities nationwide. Last Monday, the venue was ROXY in Los Angeles, guests flocked to see the Plain White T's and dance the night away to DJ Alan 12's party mixes. There was a photo booth inside the club that everyone was lining up for including me! The event was fun and everyone had a good time! Special thanks to the ROXY staff and PUMA peeps for the gracious accommodations and invitation for the party and of course the birthday celebrant, PUMA!

And yes, it's the season of giving and the thought is what counts. But to save you the trouble of exchanging your gift and avoid any awkward reactions opening your third bottle of the same cologne. You should let people know (don't demand) that colognes are not on your wish list this holiday. That's what I did last Christmas and actually was thanked for making their holiday gift shopping a little easier.

I've always professed my love for Dolce & Gabbana but this week, not so much. This sheer leopard print silk caftan is an abomination. Totally unflattering and quite frankly a bit to much. It is reminiscent of last week's criminal, Roberto Cavalli's Matisse Caftan. This leopard print is also used for other pieces by Dolce & Gabbana which are chic and trendy compared to this blah of a caftan. But this is a major infraction for the designing duo. Hopefully the last.
