In the green world of eco-friendly fashion, the creative application of the reduce, re-use and recycle mantra is just beginning to bear its fruit. This week's Smart EcoStyle is a refreshing detour for the road-wary.
Although reclamation efforts of the nearly 290 million tires discarded in the United States each year have made considerable inroads over the last two decades, 55 million of these tires still have no afterlife. But this week, it's about time!

I first came across Factory Green a few months back and was very impressed by the commitment and determination to help save the environment. The Green Movement is spearheaded by Jack Short and Daniel Lyons. Coinciding with the update of the site, which I think is eco-fabulous. They are having a T-shirt design contest. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate, have his/her winning design produced and sold on FactoryGreen.com and talk about press and exposure galore! You don't have to be a professional artist to join. Design with saving mother nature in your heart and you'll do just fine.
And as a special prize, the wining design will be featured as The Smart Stylist's Smart EcoStyle of the Week! Good luck.
Eco-friendly fashion has been around for years and the proactive response of designers and fashionistas is overwhelming. And with global warming and depletion of our natural resources, every action and campaign to aid in saving planet earth is crucial. Just like what Factory Green is doing, a site that offers organic tees, accessories out of recycled materials and home decor. Created by Daniel Lyons whose passion and determination sets him in the forefront of the Green Movement. I like the vision and purpose behind the site. The prices are very affordable which is fantastic because organic and eco-friendly apparel offerings are sometimes over priced. Cheers and best of luck to Daniel and crew. So, my dear avid readers check out the Smart Shopping destination of the week, Factory Green.
