Holiday soirees are just around the corner. And with thousands of dress styles out there, picking the perfect party dress can be time consuming or even frustrating. I selected a few 'head-turning' and 'entrance worthy' styles for your consideration for your next swanky engagement.
- Combo and Sheath Dresses - a combo dress is basically the illusion of having two garments sewed into one. Opting for this saves you time and money in trying to find a top and bottom that works together. Sheath dresses were trendy this past summer and carried on to fall. They are made to emphasis your body. But you don't have to be a size zero to pull off one. - The Little Black Dress - when in doubt, go black. The classic black dress is undeniably the dress for all seasons. Be a little adventurous and daring by wearing black on black prints with feminine silhouettes.
- The 'Unexpected' Dress - break away from the pack with two-toned, bright colored dresses. Look for silhouettes that are sexy yet elegant.
- Sequin and Lace - dazzle with glitzy sequin dresses and ooze with chic appeal with lace. Just keep in mind what I always say, moderation is key when shopping for these dress styles. Don't go over board. You don't want to look like a disco ball or you're wearing a wedding dress.
- The 'Haute' Dress - edgy, fashion-forward, haute couture dresses will be ever present in every social gatherings this holiday season. If you have the budget, go ahead and splurge!
At the end of the day, what matters most is how a dress makes you feel. And I think it's been proven time and time again you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to feel fabulous. As you can see with the dresses I found. A $40 dress can easily look like a million dollar ensemble. With you savvy fashion sense and smarts you can be the belle of the ball in every holiday party you attend.
Don't cover those shoulders just yet ladies. This fall, one-shoulder and one-sleeve dresses are quite the trend. Chic, sexy yet elegant perfect for day or evening soirees. Here are some styling tips on one-shoulder and one-sleeve dresses:
- Material/Fabric - opt for stretch cotton, jersey or any comfortable fabrics for day and go with silks, fabrics with sheen for evening.
- Style - everyday wear should be casual save the ruffles, appliques, bows for evenings or special occasions. If you want to dress it up for day, simply accessorize with chic, tasteful, statement worthy jewelry. Clutches or any small-sized handbags are fabulous with this type of dresses.
- Shoes - knee-high boots and over the knee boots are great for day while ankle boots, pumps paired with tights or leggings works best for your evening looks.
So, how much should you spend on a dress that only has one-shoulder or one sleeve? Believe it or not while I was shopping around they cost more than dresses with sleeves. I say look at this trend as sort of 'investment' garments. A dress or two for special engagements, party dresses if I may. I think a dress under $200 is ideal any dress priced more than that is surely a splurge.

Cold weather accessories are perhaps the most gifted items this holiday season. I suggest to look for interesting trendy designs something unconventional like neck warmers instead of scarves or leg and arm warmers. Giving someone something that's unique than the usual will say something about you... cool and in-the-know.
I attended a few parties this summer and witnessed not once but at least three times on different occasions, one of the worst involuntary and unintentional fashion blunder women can fall prey to... someone wearing the exact dress you have on! With more and more women getting fashion savvier each day, the chances of seeing your dress' evil twin gracing the same social engagement you RSVP to are pretty high. Not to mention, the time and money invested to feel and look extra special loses some of it's value.
My advice to prevent such melancholic fashion faux pas? Know how to incorporate the season's trends to your style. Some women prefer short dresses and others long ones. There's a requirement for long dresses though, you have to be tall or tall enough that you can wear shoes that will give you the desired height to be able to wear and look fabulous in a long dress. This summer if you're planning to wear a long dress go with colorful patterns or muted colors and patterns. And as for shoes to go with the dress, stay away from flats unless they are thongs or sandals and for heeled shoes I recommend a minimum height of 3 inches, you don't want to look like your drowning in the dress.
