Sparkle at Holiday Parties

The start of the holiday season is just around the corner and invitations to parties and soirees will start pouring in. Most holiday parties are in the evening and cocktail dresses are of course the norm. But not mandatory. Black apparel will be the color of choice by most people and there's nothing wrong about that.

My friend Nicole (whom I fondly refer to as one of 'L.A.'s social butterfly queen') asked me what else she can do besides wearing 'bling' with her black cocktail dress. I suggested to add more sparkle! And that doesn't mean more jewelry. So, Nicole you don't have to wear a tiara or glitter. Pairing a cocktail dress with sequin shoes is a chic look for your holiday party circuit.

There are a few points to consider when wearing sequin shoes.

avoid sequin shoes that looks like bridal or prom shoes.
if you're wearing a solid/plain outfit, you can pair it with either a one-colored or multicolored sequin shoe. But don't match your outfit's color with your shoes.
if you're wearing a sequin dress don't wear matching sequin shoes. You don't want to look like a disco ball do you?
Avoid multi-colored sequin shoes with patterned or printed dresses. Iridescent sequin shoes are ok.
Remember, to much sparkle can be blinding. Sequin shoes should compliment your jewelry, not clash.
As far as price is concern, you can find a pair of sequin shoes that fit any budget. Remember, you don't have to wear designer brands to look chic and stylish. But if you have a sky-is-the-limit budget, might as well get yourself a pair of Dior or Miu Miu.

Jessica Simpson shoes have been pretty consistent and in fact I consider myself a fan of the pop singer turned shoe designer. Until this 'Lopez' boot came along. There is just to much going on with this boot. The buckle strap could've been omitted and what's up with the nutmeg grater heel? Simply put, this boot was over-designed.

How to Dress for the Holiday

Happy 4th of July! I'm just filled with today's holiday spirit so I decided to have some fun with our traditional red, white and blue colors. A great advice I can give you when it comes to celebrating the holidays, it's acceptable to wear our holiday spirit may it be American flag earrings, stars and stripes socks but don't over do it! I've seen some folks wearing from the hats on their heads down to the painted stars on their toes. Maybe if bald eagles are not endangered I won't be surprised to see a nest on their heads with our country's national emblem proudly displayed.

There are subtle, tasteful and fashionable ways to show your reds, whites, and blues. And one way to figure out which shoes goes with what top, you can do a simple table of items you like by grouping them by color then you can create a look that's all you! Have fun.

Paint the Town Paisley

As an Interior Designer, Paisley is a pattern that I used often. It can transcend transitional to traditional styles. But when it comes to fashion, I love my paisley colorful and funky. Attention grabber. Just be careful and your styling down to the accessories needs to be precise. Or else you look like a hot mess! This paisley dress by Sugar Lips (84.00) is perfect for summer parties. The colors and hues are trendy this season. Paired with 'Jinx' sandals in white from Jessica Simpson ($89.00), I particularly liked this shoes because of the fade effect on the heels. Smart Shopping: Women's Shoes Under $100

This week's smart shopping feature is women's shoes under $100. It wasn't easy to pick my top three from a very long list. I did have some points to consider while I was shopping. Price, quality and style.

First on my list, Jessica Simpson Neona D' Orsay Pump. I like the simple classic style of this shoe and the delicate design. Subtly sexy. Honestly, Jessica Simpson's shoes are starting to grow on me, I think it's the unpretentiousness of her shoe designs. They are what they are.
