Alexander Wang was chosen as the fifth recipient of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. Wang was $200,000 richer with a year of business mentoring after taking home top honors at the awards gala last night in New York. Runners-up Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava and Albertus Q. Swanepoel of Albertus Quartus each received $50,000 and business mentorship.Alexander Wang and runners-up beat out a couple of my other potential winners Richard Chai and Alejandro Ingelmo. Other finalists were Jason Wu, Irene Neuwirth, Juan Carlos Obando, Obedient Sons & Daughters, and Organic.
Winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award even without the cash prize and business mentoring is quite the achievement. The mere fact that the winning designer is chosen by a committee consisting of fashion's most important and highly respected people, such recognition a lot of designers hope for but few receives. Past winners were Rogan in 2007, Doo-Ri in 2006, Trovata in 2005 and Proenza Schouler in 2004.

When I got home from work today, the October issue of W Magazine was waiting for me. "Wow! Flawless. Fierce," I heard myself say at the first sight of Anne Hathaway on the cover wearing a white Dior Haute Couture dress, her hair and make-up reminiscent of mythological goddesses.
W Magazine's interview with Anne Hathaway was a fabulous read! The article 'Queen Anne' is a rare after-break-up interview with Hathaway (she recently split with 4-year boyfriend Raffaello Follieri). The press and media had a relentless field day with their breakup.
But the article doesn't focus on the recent scandal, rather it explores the multi-faceted actress whom we adored in the 'Princess Diaries,' the wife we admired and emphatized with in 'Brokeback Mountain' and the woman for whom we rooted and wanted to be in 'The Devil Wears Prada.'

'Merci beaucoup et au revoir Yves Saint Laurent.'
Yves Saint Laurent, one of fashion's well known and greatest, passed away at his home in Paris on Sunday after battling a long illness. Spanning over 40 years in fashion with his extraordinary creative mind evident by his unique eye for color, provocative designs and love for fantasy pair all that with his personality and eccentricity. He will be remembered and surely will be missed.

Yves Saint Laurent designs showcased at The Met Museum.
Barneys New York announced today, that Howard Socol has resigned and will be leaving his post as chairman, CEO and president of one of the most recognized luxury department stores in the world. With his departure, Barneys New York has yet to find to fill the position.
In an interview with WWD Magazine, Socol said that it was his decision to leave. Seven years, four flagship stores, fifteen co-op stores and two outlet stores. Socol said "...I felt it was time to take time to enjoy all the opportunities that life affords."
Good luck Mr. Socol and thank you for seven fabulous years!
