Bookmark, Send & Share Shop For A Cure: Breast Cancer Awareness

Oct09_HEIDI_300x399.jpgOne cause I'm very passionate about is Breast Cancer Awareness. This year, an estimated 192,370 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 2.5 million women living in the United States have a history of breast cancer. I know these numbers seems high but there has been a decline on breast cancer mortality rate of over 2% each year since 1990. Nevertheless, an estimated 40,170 women will die from breast cancer in 2009 (source: Breast Cancer Facts&Figures 2009-2010).

There is still no cure for breast cancer. It is the second leading cause of  cancer death in the U.S. Early detection and improvements in treatments are important factors that can be attributed to the decline on breast cancer deaths. The campaign for screening goes hand-in-hand with the search for a cure.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a great time to do however we can to help and support a cause that can save lives.

Hollywood celebrities, fashion designers and other companies have always done their part in helping various charitable events and fundraiser benefiting breast cancer awareness and research. KitcnenAid (shown below) offers a series of pink 'Cook for A Cure' kitchen appliances, Anne Klein has adorable accessories (shown above) and online boutique Shopbop partnered with celebs like Nicky Hilton and Denise Richards to design special edition tees with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Let us show our support by purchasing 'pink' products, donating and participating in events or as small as wearing a pink ribbon not just for October but year round. For more info on how you can help go to Pink Ribbon International and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
